Description:

As well as being a contributory factor in deaths, alcohol is also a contributory factor in a number of illnesses. There are difficulties associated with collecting and collating this information. However, information on diagnosis is collected for all inpatients at Northern Ireland hospitals. In 2004/05, there were 8,133 alcohol-related admissions to hospitals in Northern Ireland. This resource provides data by year of admission, all admissions, alcohol-related admissions and alcohol-related admissions as a percentage of all admissions. Any one individual could suffer from more than one condition at any one time and that any individual could be admitted more than once over the course of a year or over a number of years.
